Design and Operating Principle
Hand built type rubber expansion joint designs are based on the manual shaping of elastomer layers reinforced with multi-layer structural materials.
This manufacturing method enables the production of expansion joints beyond standard manufacturing limits, including large diameters, special geometries, and custom movement requirements.
The elastomer body absorbs axial, lateral, and angular movements, reducing thermal stress and mechanical loads in the piping system. It also contributes to vibration and noise damping.
Flanged or project-specific connection options allow compatibility with a wide range of process systems.
Performance Advantages
- Provides custom solutions for applications beyond standard products
- Ensures reliable use in large-diameter systems
- Allows project-specific elastomer and layer configurations
- Offers high flexibility and movement capacity
- Effectively reduces vibration and noise
- Reduces mechanical stress in piping systems
- Provides long service life
- Fully adapts to process requirements
Operating Values
Operating Pressure
- Maximum 16 bar
(depending on design, DN size, and layer structure)
Operating Temperature
- EPDM: -30°C / +130°C
- NBR: -20°C / +110°C
- Neoprene: -30°C / +110°C
- Viton: -10°C / +180°C
Movement Capabilities
- Axial Movement: ±20 mm – 40 mm
- Lateral Movement: ±15 mm – 30 mm
- Angular Movement: 8° – 15°
Note: In hand built type expansion joints, all operating values are defined on a project-specific basis. Final movement, pressure, and temperature limits may vary depending on design criteria.
